Sligo is an opportunity to purchase a low-time, ocean-ready Nordhavn 40
This vessel is well maintained, well equipped, and ready to take new owners anywhere in the world. The outfit and condition of the vessel exceeds most first generation N40s.

This vessel is designed and equipped for extended ocean or coastal passages with an approximate range of 2400 nm at 6.5 kts. The vessel is spacious for its length and offers the efficiency, seakeeping, and stability typical of Nordhavn designs. Sligo’s design, outfit and condition makes her one of the few N40s truly ready for extended range open ocean cruising. The present owners were fitting out to cruise to the Mediterranean however changes to their life plan make this now not possible.

A marine survey in May 2023 noted: “Our inspection throughout the vessel interior and exterior showed
the M/V “Sligo” is maintained to a very high standard. The owner’s diligent and detailed maintenance is
apparent throughout.” (Survey available to prospective purchasers).

MV Sligo
Vessel Description – June 2023

Here are a few of the many notable features of this vessel.

  • A proper pilothouse with port & starboard “Dutch” doors
  • Two (2) staterooms
  • “Continuous duty” rated diesel propulsion with low hours
  • High efficiency, low fuel consumption
  • AC generator set and “get-home” wing engine
  • Two (2) redundant roll stabilisation systems: active hydraulic fins and paravanes
  • Long range: 2400 nm without need for additional temporary tanks
  • Bow thruster for easy docking
  • Diesel heat plus three (3) independent modern reverse cycle air conditioning/heating systems
  • 400 gallons/day water making capacity
  • 110 lb Bruce anchor with 400' of 3/8" all chain rode on vertical windlass, for a good night’s sleep
  • Refinished hull and deck for great looks
  • The heft and hull form to handle open ocean seas

Sligo is hull #41 of 44 built in the US, the so-called first generation 40s. Hulls 45 and later were built in China. It is perhaps the most capable 40-foot passage making powerboat ever designed - and has many of the system configurations, accommodation improvements, port light style, and other developments that followed hull #21, the Nordhavn 40 that circumnavigated in the 2001 “Around-the-World” project. She has the well-proven Nordhavn dry stack exhaust and gravity feed fuel system, producing one of the most reliable engine systems fitted on any yacht.

Note: Sligo is a Canadian registered vessel and was built in the US by Pacific Seacraft Corporation in California. This boat may qualify for NAFTA treatment (duty free importation across Can/US border).

General Layout
Sligo has the later standard Nordhavn 40 Gen 1 layout with a combination of teak joinery and laminate panels throughout.

Board the vessel via the starboard aft entry port into the deep protected cockpit with lazarette under. The hull and bulwarks are heavily constructed giving the immediate impression of a seagoing vessel. The cockpit has a storage locker to starboard, an aft entry port to the transom/swim platform and a portside propane locker with 2 x 20 lb cylinders. Engine room air intakes with screens and storm plates are to port and starboard. Also fitted are generous scuppers and a large freeing port. A large hatch leads down to the lazarette where you will find batteries, steering gear, inverter, hot water tank, emergency steering tiller and 230vac/12vdc battery charger. Sligo’s cockpit is additionally fitted with a custom fold-up mahogany table with 2 teak chairs for al fresco dining, plus a sunbrella cockpit awning for sun and rain protection.

Enter the salon from the cockpit through the Diamond/Seaglaze door fitted with neoprene seals and dogs, attesting to the vessel’s open ocean purpose. The galley is to port at the forward end of the salon, while to starboard there are steps up to the pilothouse. Between the two are steps down to the passageway to the head and staterooms. The head, with separate stall shower is to starboard off the passageway, and the guest stateroom is to port. Engine room access is through the guest stateroom, and via a large mechanic’s hatch in the salon sole.

At the forward end of the passageway is the master stateroom with a centreline queen bed, with copious stowage space organized in hanging lockers, overhead lockers, and drawer units. The berth swings up on gas struts to reveal a deep compartment with bow thruster, a bow thruster battery, shore power transformer, air conditioning pump, and additional stowage. Forward of the berth is the anchor chain locker and underside of the windlass.

From the salon up the steps to starboard, one enters the pilot house. This is a true command position with all controls within reach. Reverse sloped front windows and Dutch doors are rugged commercial marine grade with excellent visibility. A Portuguese bridge surrounds the pilot house on the outside which, combined with the height above the waterline, emphasize that this is a sea boat.

On deck, to starboard aft are steps up the boat deck where the dinghy, mast, boom, and deck lockers can be found. There is also access to the pilot house top for maintenance and look out. Forward of the Portuguese bridge is the foredeck with deck hatch to the master state room, deck lockers for stowage of lines and gear, the vertical windlass with foot controls, heavy cleats, hawse holes, anchor and bow roller.

The gunwales of the vessel are protected by a heavy UHMW (ultra high molecular weight) polyethylene rub rail. Fenders hang from dedicated pad eyes built into the gunwales. An additional UHMW rub rail and spray strake is located near the waterline from midships aft around the stern of the boat.

Salon
There are L-shaped settees to port and starboard with large storage underneath and behind. The “hi-lo” dinette table, which enlarges with fold-out wings, can be used either port or starboard for seating up to six people. In the port side position, the table has hold downs to the cabin sole for use at sea. The cushions are of high-resiliency foam upholstered in butter soft Ultra-leather.

  • Main Engine (2910 hr) Lugger LP668D, 105hp, continuous-duty rating, w/ Twin Disc MG 5050, 3:1 transmission and 2” propeller shaft
  • 4 blade NiBrAl propeller, 28” x 24”, CCW rotation viewed from aft (left-handed). Balanced 2023, polished annually
  • Main engine mounts and torsional coupling (aka “damper plate”) new in 2023
  • Low fuel consumption: 6.5 litres/hr @ 6 kts; 9.5 litres/hr @ 7 kts
  • Wing Engine (est. < 100 hr) – Yanmar 3GM30 w/ 1” propeller shaft and Martec folding propeller providing a redundant propulsion system rather than having a second source of propulsion linked to the main shaft. This engine has a dedicated alternator to charge the genset/wing engine starting battery.
  • Isolated wing engine fuel tank - 10-gallon tank is independent from the main fuel system. Fuel is filtered through a separate Racor filter during operator-selected refuelling of the wing engine tank from the main supply.
  • 2 x 460 USG vinylester resin-laminated fibreglass fuel storage tanks (920 USG total) molded into hull.
Extremely durable; cannot break free. Each tank has a sight gauge and a manhole size access por t in the top. Tanks inspected and cleaned in 2017.
  • Centerline supply tank, gravity fed through ¾” fuel lines from the main tanks. All systems requiring diesel fuel are fed from this tank. There is a water drain fitting at the low point in the supply tank.
  • Custom stainless steel dry stack exhaust in 2016 (major upgrade). Main engine exhausts at top of mast in moving air. No through-hull to ingest debris into cooling system. The SS exhaust is highly polished and unique amongst N40s.
  • Walter keel cooler removed, cleaned, rebuilt 2021. Main engine coolant pump replaced 2021. Walter keel cooler eliminates raw water pump and raw water contact with engine. Engine coolant replaced every 2 years.
  • Racor duplex 900 fuel filters with vacuum gauge for main engine.
  • Walbro 6802 fuel polishing/transfer system with in-line Racor 900 filter, 2 micron
  • Reverso oil-changing system – plumbed to main and generator engines

Electrical Systems
Sligo is fitted with electrical systems that allow world-wide operation in areas with 60 Hz or 50 hz power supply.

  • Northern Lights 8Kw generator (1365 hr) with GEN SEP gas/water separate exhaust system. The genset has a dedicated alternator for charging the Genset/Wing engine starting battery.
  • 120 vac, 60 Hz, 30-amp shore power system with 2 inlets – one for general service and one for airconditioning/hot water heater. The air conditioning/hot water heater can be fed from general service when just one shore power source is available.
  • 240 vac, 50 Hz, 30 amp shore power system with 1 inlet. This feeds a 240vac/120vac Olsun stepdown transformer for air conditioning & hot water. It also feeds a Charles 240 vac/12 vdc battery charger to charge all batteries and power 12 vdc systems. Via the inverter, 120 vac, 60hz systems will operate. In this way, almost all vessel systems can operate with 50Hz power*
